According to The Register, OpenAI is fixing a logging bug in Codex that writes approximately 640 TB of data annually to user SSDs through SQLite feedback logs. Developer Rui Fan reported that after 21 days of uptime, Codex wrote 37 TB on a single machine; extrapolating this rate would consume the full write endurance of a 1 TB SSD rated at 600 TBW within a year, causing premature hardware failure and replacement costs for enterprise users.
