DeepMind CEO proposes FINRA-modeled standards body for frontier AI regulation

According to TechCrunch and The Verge, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis called for creation of an independent standards body modeled on FINRA to test frontier AI models and develop release best practices. Under the proposal, labs would voluntarily submit models 30 days before release; once effective, the system could become mandatory for U.S. market deployment. Hassabis said the institution should be operational before year-end and could address critical post-release vulnerabilities through collaboration with frontier labs.
