Cisco patches critical Secure Email Gateway zero-day CVE-2026-76461 allowing root access via email

According to CSO Online and The Register, Cisco released emergency patches for CVE-2026-76461, a critical vulnerability in Secure Email Gateway appliances that allowed attackers to take over devices by sending specially crafted emails. Exploitation was already occurring in the wild when the vulnerability was discovered.
