OpenAI announces Dots, always-on AI agents that operate independently in background
According to TechCrunch, OpenAI at its September 29 Dev Day announced Dots, personal AI agents powered by GPT-6 Astra designed to operate independently of specific hardware or interfaces, pursuing user-defined goals continuously in the background with minimal oversight. Dots are available starting September 29 in ChatGPT for Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets, with users able to launch them from Codex or ChatGPT. OpenAI envisions Dots working in teams and described use cases including a dedicated agent monitoring customer feedback to implement bug fixes and features, and another running scientific analysis.
