IBM study finds 77% of organizations report AI adoption outpacing governance capabilities

According to IBM's 2026 Business Value study cited in CIO, 77% of organizations reported that AI adoption is outpacing their governance capabilities. The IBM research also found that two-thirds of employees use AI without proper oversight and approximately 50% of enterprises cannot track which AI tools their staff are using, creating visibility gaps across vendor contracts, usage-based charges, and departmental budgets.
